Are you frugal? Do you have a hard time throwing away things you might use later? I sure do! I guess you could say I am a borderline pack-rat. Definitely not a hoarder, but I do like to be thrifty and frugal and I don’t like to waste things.
One thing I have a hard time throwing out is ribbons. If I get a gift with a cute ribbon, I keep the ribbon. If someone brings me a bag of treats tied with a cute ribbon I usually keep the ribbon if I think I could reuse it. Or If I use a ribbon for a party for something I will keep it if it can be reused. For example, the ribbons I put around the wheat grass centerpieces when I threw THIS shower were in perfect condition so I held onto them.
So, in my new craft space I have a large buffet and hutch. One of the drawers had silverware dividers in it that just happened to perfectly hold spools of ribbon. I got all my ribbon in the drawer but didn’t know what to do with all my pieces of ribbon that weren’t on spools. So, here is what I decided to do:
I had this metal container and I had a bunch of these cute notecards that I got from the dollar bins at Michael’s. I cut each notecard in half, which made them the perfect size to fit in my container.
I simply wrapped the ribbon around the cards and secured them with a straight pin. I put 1 or 2 or 3 or more ribbons on a card depending on how wide they were. Then I stuck them in my container. I also stuck a magnet to the back of the container so I can stick the pins on it when I take off a ribbon. I love the way it looks and I love how I can see all the ribbons I have and they aren’t all tangled up in a drawer.
What do you have a hard time throwing away?
I always save ribbons too - I have a basket full of them in my wrapping closet. ALthough it is functional it is not as cute as yours. I have a hard time throwing anything away - Ryan on the other hand loves throwingthings away - it makes him happy.
ReplyDeleteThese pictures make me happy! I love when my crafting spot is organized... I am always more creative then. Just like when my kids' toys are picked up and organized then they will play with them so much better.
ReplyDeleteI can never throw away tiny bits of left over fabric. I've started sewing a few onto a long strip of thread to wrap around gifts.
I have all my ribbon scraps in a gallon Ziploc. I love this idea!!

ReplyDeleteI do the same thing, except I have a board about 10" wide and it holds about 10-12 different ribbons. I have them in a plastic box with a lid and I have FOUR boxes. each one is 12 x 12" square! I have a lot of ribbon!
ReplyDeleteYour ribbons are much prettier in an embossed tin!
