Milk & Cookies First Birthday Party

My kids are on Spring Break this week so I want to spend time with them and have decided to re-post some of my posts from a couple years ago this week in order to have more time for my kids.  I hope you will find some things you haven't seen here before!

Today is Cookie of the Week day, but instead of a recipe I thought it would be fun to re-post a Cookies and Milk Birthday Party I threw for my youngest son's first birthday.  I hope you like it!

Milk & Cookies First Birthday Party

Last year while perusing the web I came across the CUTEST idea for a party over at A. Party Style.  Anne had thrown a Milk and Cookies Party for her daughter.  I immediately fell in love with the idea.  If you read my post about the Versatile Blog Award you would know that I LOVE LOVE LOVE cookies!  So, I decided my baby boy needed a Milk and Cookies Party for his first birthday!  I decided to make it a PJ party since it was going to be after dinner on a weeknight and we would have a lot of school aged kids there.
For colors I went with turquoise blue, dark brown, tan, and dark orange.

Here is the invitation I made.  I printed the text on white cardstock and used my Silhouette to cut the other parts of the invite.

I was on a pretty tight budget but its amazing the effect some ribbon and cute paper can have!
I had some of the jars already and rounded the rest up from my family.

{more after the break}

The scrapbook paper is placed inside the jars.  It takes a little finesse to get it to fit in right because the sides of the jars are not perfectly straight.  Don't fret when you do it.  No one will notice if its not perfect.

I made most of the cookies, but I did buy some Piroulines and Frosted Animal cookies from the store to make my life a LITTLE easier!

I printed the labels on white paper and then cut frames from brown vinyl to go around the labels and secure them to the jars.

I had these square glass dishes from my wedding (my mom stores them in her big house).  I just filled them with ice and sat the milk on top.  I printed the labels on blue cardstock.  Obviously we had 1% milk because it was a first birthday!

The chocolate milk came that way, but for the caramel milk I added 1 bottle of caramel ice cream sauce (in the kind of bottle that Hershey's syrup comes in) to one gallon of milk, minus enough to make room for the caramel.  It was a BIG hit!

I put this trifle dish filled with Cookie Crisp cereal on my island counter for a decoration.  These paper fans were also used at the centerpieces we made for my wedding.  Aren't they cute?  I wish I could remember how we made them.  I will have to try to figure that out.  It WAS 10 years ago though!

I embellished my candle chandelier with a bit of ribbon.

I made a paper Happy Birthday Banner with my Silhouette.  That machine sure comes in handy!  I loved the way it tied everything together.

I threaded the cards on the orange ribbon and tied the brown ribbon in between.

I knew there would be tons of cookies left over so I made these Midnight Snack bags for each family to take some home.  Otherwise I would have eaten them ALL!
I just cut out the spotted paper on the Silhouette, printed the white part and cut it out by hand and then glued them onto the bag.

This was the little chocolate cake I made for the birthday boy to dig into and make a mess with.  "Sugar Lump" is the pet name I call him.  The cake had issues.  But he enjoyed it thoroughly!

Have you ever had Spritz cookies?  I am sure you have had them but probably not homemade ones.  They are soooo yummy...like a little shortbread cookie.  You make them in a cookie press.  They are easy to make and I think they are adorable!

Here we have some Snickerdoodles.  These are super yummy.  You can find the recipe for at the bottom of this post.

These were oatmeal cookies from the back of the oatmeal carton, but instead of regular raisins I used chocolate covered raisins.

White Chocolate Macadamias....yummy!!  Too bad I kind overcooked some of them:(

These are some Black and White Sammies, which I didn't love but everyone else seemed to.  They really didn't turn out well.  But I like the look of the super dark brown cookies.

The party was really fun.  Everyone pigged out on cookies and milk.  The kids played and the adults chatted and Luke enjoyed being surrounded by people who love him!
